A powerful earthquake of 6.8 magnitude struck Morocco on late Friday (Sep 8, 2023), killing more than 2,000 people and injuring thousands in Marrakech – the nearest city to the epicenter and a popular tourist destination for historic buildings.  The most of the fatalities and infrastructure damages were reported in mountainous areas in the south. The death toll is expected to rise as rescuers are struggling to get through boulder-strewn roads to the remote areas hit hardest. The United States Geological Survey has declared that this earthquake was the most powerful to shake the region in a century.

Homes and buildings have crumbled, roads are blocked, and the aftershocks and tremors persist, making rescue and aid efforts incredibly challenging. Morocco urgently needs our help.
