East Africa is struggling to recover from the impact of the El Niño-induced drought in 2015/2016. Some 5.6 million people in East Africa require humanitarian relief and around 2.7 million children and pregnant and lactating mothers need supplementary feeding, 9.2 million people need support to access safe drinking water, 1.9 million households need livestock support for livelihoods and food security, and around 300,000 children between 6-59 months old need treatment for severe acute malnutrition.
