Pakistan is the seventh country in the world in terms of lower access to basic sanitation facilities, with 1 in 3 schools in Pakistan lacking basic toilet provision. Thousands of children in Pakistan have no or very limited access to clean water and healthy sanitation facilities in their schools, especially for adolescent girls who lack adequate facilities to manage their specific biological needs.
With a view to providing students with a healthy learning environment, Muslim Response USA has launched Pakistan School Water & Sanitation Program in South Punjab, starting with the District Rajanpur. The program is constructing latrines, and hand washing facilities, and providing safe and clean drinking water in government schools.
DONATE generously and support Muslim Response USA in ensuring that children in the rural areas of Pakistan are studying in healthy environment and have sustainable access to safe water and proper sanitation services.

Resumption of Educational Activities for Children affected by the Volcanic Eruption in DR Congo
The volcanic eruption from Mount Nyiragongo in DR Congo on May 22nd forced tens of thousands of people to flee the area. A river of boiling lava from the Mount Nyiragongo destroyed hundreds of homes, left at least 32 people dead, and around 20,000 homeless. The lava also engulfed and destroyed Tujali Watoto School & Vocational Training Center funded by Muslim Response USA in Munigi Chiefdom, which was serving over 300 children from extremely poor and at risk families.
With the generous support from our donors, we have relocated the Tujali Watoto School and resumed educational activities in a rented building. Here are some glimpses of the school bags and teaching aids distribution along with the comments from selected students and their guardians.
Muslim Response USA is implementing Liberia Maternal Health & Nutrition Project in Barchue Town, Grand Bassa County. The project is aimed at empowering mothers with the knowledge of health, hygiene and nutrition, and improving their access to nutritious food through Kitchen Gardening. The project interventions include formation of women groups, their capacity building on health, hygiene and nutrition, and distribution of seeds and tools for kitchen gardening.
Ustadha Yasmin Mogahed describes how Muslim Response USA programs are impacting the poor and at risk families around the world.
The month of Dhul Hijjah provides us with the opportunity to gain as many barakah as we can. Through our Udhiya, we can provide nutritious meat to the hungry and feed them for days. Let’s aim to give as much as we can during the first 10 days of this blessed month, so we can get closer to Allah (SWT).
Please donate your Qurbani.
We are excited to share an important news with you today. With a view to better portray our work and to align it with our guiding principles and core values, we have amended the name of Response USA for Relief and Development effective from May 27 th 2021, and now it is:
Muslim Response USA for Relief and Development
This change has been made by a unanimous Resolution from our Board of Directors and approved by the Commonwealth of Virginia’s State Corporation Commission (SCC); they have issued a Certificate of Amendment to this effect. Further, as per the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) guidelines, any exempt organization that has changed its name must report the change on its next annual return such as Form 990; however, we have notified this amendment to IRS in advance.
We would like to reiterate our commitment to the Humanitarian Charter and Code of Conduct, and continue to pursue our Vision for a peaceful, just and equitable world where everyone enjoys a life free of hunger, suffering and exploitation. Muslim Response USA will continue to work with and support the extremely poor and at risk families around the globe irrespective of their gender, religion, race, creed or ethnicity, and help them move out of poverty, exploitation and marginalization.
Please note that our name change will not impact our address, tax identification number and exempt status, which all remain the same.
We THANK YOU for your continued support and patronage and look forward to working together for changing the lives of those in need; Insha’Allah.

Muslim Response USA is implementing Water Supply Project in Thatta district of Sindh province in Pakistan where around 75% people live in poverty and only 13% use tap water. Every day, women and girls in the rural areas have to walk hours under the scorching heat to fetch water fort their families. The majority of the schools have no toilets or facility for drinking water. In addition, tens of thousands of acres of land in Thatta have been eroded by the sea, which is also severely affecting the ground water aquifers. In many areas of the district, the erosion has rendered agricultural lands useless by making them saline and turning the water sources brackish.
Muslim Response USA is implementing a rural development program in Barchue Town of Grand Bassa County in Liberia. Setting up of a Village Saving and Loan Association (VSLA) was identified to be the first Muslim Response USA intervention in the area. VSLA is a group of people who save together and take small loans from those savings. The activities of the group run in cycles of one year, after which the accumulated savings and the loan profits are distributed back to members. With extensive training and supervisory support from Muslim Response USA, the VSLA is now operational where members conduct their weekly meetings independently, do savings, decide on loan requests by the members.
