A devastating earthquake struck the eastern parts of Afghanistan
A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck the eastern provinces of Kunar and Nangarhar on the 31st of August, 2025. The quake hit at a shallow depth of 8 km (5 miles), making it especially destructive.

Afghanistan Emergency Relief
Entire villages in Kunar have been flattened, with thousands feared trapped under the rubble. Roads are blocked by landslides, hospitals are overwhelmed, and rescue workers struggle to reach remote communities.
After decades of war, natural disasters have left Afghanistan with one of the world’s highest levels of emergency food insecurity; a crisis that has persisted for years and continues today.
Like all humanitarian disasters, the scale of this disaster is catastrophic:

- Over 3,100+ people injured
- Entire villages destroyed, families left without shelter, food, or medical care
- Hospitals stretched beyond capacity, with casualties expected to rise as rescues continue
